A practical guide for opening a new store, clinic branch, or office without operational downtime. Learn what to lock down before day one and what to automate for scale.
Start with a stable core before adding tools
Most SMB technology pain comes from stacking apps on top of an unstable network. Before launch, define your internet failover plan, firewall policy baseline, and VLAN structure for staff, guests, and POS devices.
When your core is clean, every other system becomes easier to support and cheaper to maintain.
Use a rollout sequence that protects operations
Roll out identity and access controls first, then endpoints, then business applications. This order limits security gaps and reduces rework during go-live week.
- Provision accounts in Microsoft 365 with role-based groups
- Enable MFA and conditional access before app launch
- Deploy endpoint protection and patch policy before users sign in
- Segment POS traffic from office and guest networks
- Test backup restore and payment processing before opening day
Build for growth from month one
Even a single location should use repeatable templates for onboarding, access approvals, and endpoint setup. These become your operating model when you add a second site.
